Lucky Color C200 35mm Film (C-41)

After over a decade away, Lucky Color Film is back — and this time it's the real thing. Lucky C200 is a brand new, original C-41 colour negative 35mm film made in China. New machinery, new chemistry, new emulsion. Not a rebrand, not repackaged old stock, not a rebranded anything. Genuinely new film being coated right now.

At $16.00 a roll for 36 exposures, it's one of the most affordable and interesting colour negative films available in Australia right now.

Price is per roll.

Why photographers love Lucky C200

Lucky C200 has a look that feels familiar but is entirely its own. Think Kodak Gold vibes — similar grain structure and sharpness — then add higher contrast and a slightly experimental edge that makes results feel a little more alive than your average ISO 200 stock.

It shines in good light, and many photographers prefer to rate it at ISO 100 for even finer grain and punchier colour. In 35mm it's a natural fit for street photography, travel, and everyday shooting where you want something with a bit more pop than a standard consumer stock without spending Portra money.

It works in virtually any 35mm camera — point-and-shoots, SLRs, rangefinders — and its forgiving C-41 process means you can get it developed anywhere.

A bit of film history

Lucky Film has been manufacturing photographic film in China since the 1950s, making it one of the longest-running film producers in the world. After years of reduced output, the company has reinvested in new coating infrastructure and chemistry to bring C200 back as a genuinely new product. Buying Lucky C200 directly supports active film manufacturing — a Chinese company putting real money into keeping analogue photography alive in 2025.

Processing

Lucky C200 requires standard C-41 colour negative processing. We process C-41 in-house at Ikigai Film Lab in Melbourne, with scanning available on our Fujifilm Frontier and Noritsu HS-1800 scanners.

Common questions

Is Lucky C200 new film or old stock?

It's genuinely new. Lucky C200 is a brand new emulsion manufactured on new equipment with new chemistry. It is not repackaged old stock, not a rebrand of another film, and not expired film. This is real new manufacturing happening right now.

Can I rate Lucky C200 at ISO 100?

Yes — and many photographers prefer it. Rating C200 at ISO 100 gives you finer grain, slightly richer colour, and more shadow detail. If you're shooting in bright daylight it's worth trying. Just let your lab know you're pulling the film so they can adjust processing if needed.

How does Lucky C200 compare to Kodak Gold 200?

Both are ISO 200 colour negative films with a warm, punchy character, but Lucky C200 has noticeably higher contrast and a slightly more unpredictable edge. Kodak Gold is more consistent and refined. C200 is cheaper, more characterful, and a great choice if you want something a bit different — and if you want to directly support new film manufacturing.
