Prefer to drop off your film?
Use our 24/7 drop box at Ikigai HQ in Williamstown North, or find your nearest drop-off point in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Hobart, Perth or the Gold Coast.
Step 3. We process and scan your film
Your film is processed entirely in-house and scanned on your choice of Fujifilm Frontier or Noritsu. If you don’t have a preference, we’ll choose the scanner best suited to your film.
Every frame is individually colour corrected, checked and rotated before delivery. Each roll is also labelled by film stock and ISO, and we’ll include feedback if we notice anything unusual.
When your scans are ready, they’ll be uploaded to Dropbox and sent to you by text message. Each film process is delivered as it is completed, so you won’t have to wait for your entire order if one process takes longer than another.
Your negatives are archivally sleeved as standard and stored securely until you’re ready to request their return.
How we’re different
Whether you send us one roll or an entire wedding season, every order receives the same professional attention.
A higher standard of colour correction
Most film labs say they colour correct. At Ikigai, it is the core of our service. We do not simply accept the scanner’s automatic interpretation or apply the same house look to every roll. Every frame is individually assessed and corrected for colour, density and contrast by an experienced member of our scanning team. It is the difference professional photographers rely on when consistency matters, and the same attention is given to every client.
Frontier or Noritsu. Your choice.
Ikigai Film Lab was the first in Australia to offer photographers a choice between Fujifilm Frontier and Noritsu scanning , which means no Australian lab has been helping photographers choose between them for longer. Select the scanner that suits your work or leave the decision to us.
Industry-leading process control
Our chemistry is monitored using custom process-control software developed in-house and now used by film labs around the world. Combined with regular control strips and experienced technicians, it helps us maintain consistent processing from one roll to the next.
Labelled, checked and rotated
Every roll is identified and labelled by brand, film type and ISO. Every frame is checked and rotated before delivery. We also provide feedback whenever we notice something unusual or see an opportunity to help you get more from your next roll.
Scanning profiles built around your work
Our Lab Profiles let you save your preferred colour, contrast and tone, upload reference images and leave notes for our scanning team. Your profile is automatically loaded before every scan, helping your work remain consistent from shoot to shoot, season to season and year to year.
Scan sizes
Our Standard scans are higher resolution than the standard files commonly offered by other film labs, giving every client more detail without needing to upgrade. For the largest possible file, our Pro scans use the maximum output available from your chosen Frontier or Noritsu scanner. Both sizes receive the same individual colour correction and attention from our scanning team.
Easy online ordering
Complete your film-processing order online in minutes. Choose your processing, scanner, scan size and preferences through one simple form. Ikigai introduced Australia’s first online film-lab order form, creating a faster and easier way to send film to the lab.
Film delivery
We deliver each film process as it is completed, rather than holding your entire order for the slowest process. Your negatives are archivally sleeved as standard and stored for longer than at any other Australian film lab. When requesting their return, you can also add fresh film to the parcel at some of Australia’s best film prices.
